I am trying to increase the number of tabs that show at the top of the page. How do I control the size of the tabs so the width doen't take teh content outside of the monitor view without scrolling? 

I am not q tech.

The width of each menu tab item will be set in your skin.css file, you will need to find the class that sets the width for each tab. - If you need further help you will need to provide a link to your site for us to look at.

Or, you could use this tutorial:Troubleshooting DotNetNuke Skins to identify the IDs in the menu and find the class that sets the width.

Thanks for the pointer. I located the skin.css. Several questions: 1) Can Front Page be used to edit it? 2) Do I need to know HTML to take action? 3) How do I know what width to set in the first place? 4) How does teh edited file get uploaded, Cute FTP? 5) Is this something a non-HTML person should stay away from?

If you don't know HTML or CSS, I'd suggest that you be VERY careful!

Always make backups before you start making modifications, or test your modifications on a separate, testing server before adding them to a live site.

Hello,

1) Yes front page can be used. - Any HTML editor, or even notepad can be used to edit the files

2) a little HTML and CSS knowledge would be helpful, but if you look at the tutorials starting from Issue no 5 and 6 they will walk you through skinning from a beginner

3) good question, there is no definite answer, some sites use fluid widths so they expand to fit the browser window, others have it fixed so that it fits in an 800x600 window, others fix at 1024x768 - a lot depends on the audience of your website and the typical computer setup they have. If you want some inspiration of skins with different widths have a look at http://skintemplates.dnncreative.com

5) Like Joe says, I would suggest you experiment on a localhost installation first before attempting it on a live website :

I have recently introduced a friend to skinning who was a beginner to HTML and they managed to create their own skins after working through the tutorials on DNN Creative, so I think you should be fine.
