Has anyone found a way to move your developement site to the live site intact?  I created a site using the store, link module and 2 other third party modules.   I set the basic categories up in the store and some products.  I also entered all the inital content.

I tried using the export template with data, and it falls way short of the mark.  The store modules didnt even make it.   The links go to the wrong place.  Its a disastor.  This site is a child site. Also for some reason "Home" isnt the starting page on the child site, its default is the starting page on the parent site.

I have no problem with on going content modification being done on the live site, but part of customer service, at least for me, is to get them started.

Hi Mark,

Have you tried this method but in reverse?
How to copy a live site to a localhost installation.

Using this backup and restore method I mentioned if you have only created the data for the child site then yes you will have problems with the parent portal.

The method I have developed recently is to create the site structure exactly as it is on both localhost and live websites so that you can transfer all data at once.

For future use I would create a backup of your live site and then install this to your localhost site. Create the changes you need to your localhost site and then upload this back to the live site. - The problem with this method however is that if the site is live and data is changing rapidly ie. users registering on the parent site you will lose this data.

If I was going to add a child portal to DNN Creative I would add all the content to the live site and just lock it off so only admin can view it. - I would first of all test the modules that  I am going to use and the skins on localhost, but after testing, the actual content would be added in to the live site. This may not be the ideal solution for you, but I have found it the simplest as the transferring of content between localhost and live sites can be shaky.

Thanks,

I've just come across this blog post which lists further links and details for transferring between localhost and production:
