Refreshing IE?

As you might have seen, I am struggling to get back into Skinning and CSS.

I am testing a lot of classes just to understand what they are; consequently it is a LOT of uploading and testing. I’ve been testing this one: www.goldcoastwebwiz.com/susana on a live site, and I use a second computer to display the site and to refresh it.

PROBLEM:

The updates doesn’t come through.

I change a CSS class, go to Cute FTP and upload, (portal/default/skin/etc…

When refreshing, even restarting IE, on the second machine, I cannot see any changes. (Testing with full skin installation has shown that they are there.)

Any way around this – or it’s just another IE annoyance we have to live with?

Cheers

Do the updates show in a Firefox installation?

Try CTRL-F5 to force the browser to reload the page. It will also reload the css files.

Not sure about Firefox now - bad old memory.

I will test F5 as well, but I thought “Refresh Button” and Re=Starting IE should do it?

I believe that I had the same problem with both.
The testing computer has 2 monitors and I have IE-06 on one and Firefox on the other.

But I noticed another interesting thing:
I put in a payment link for PayPal, and it didn’t work.
(I put them in the Iframe to get them to work.)

Now the link is working and it takes me to PayPal, but I get error on the paypal site.
(I sent this to PayPal yesterday but haven’t heard back yet.)

Then I happened to click the link in Firefox and found that it works fine there?

Funny stuff these things….

Cheers

CTRL+F5 should do the trick - F5 by itself or refresh tends not to work.

F5 reloads the page, but doesn't necessarily reload cached files associated with the page.
CTRL-F5 reloads the page and the cache.
Sometimes you have to use the browser tool to clear the cache, too.

On the server side, there can also be caching issues. Choices there on the Host Settings page include clearing the cache, restarting the application (which also clears the cache) or, as you have noted, restarting IIS.
