Hi Lee

I looked on your site for upgrade info to 4.8

I just want a simplified version everything I read or viewed gave me too much info and it was for me confusing.

I know about renaming web.config and backup DB along with other files. Its what to do with the zip file upgrade only version.

Do I just ftp it to my site and it unzips or ?

go to it in browser and it starts ?

If you  have not upgraded DotNetNuke before I would suggest you test it in a localhost installation, as more often than not the upgrade will fail and cause problems on your first attempt.

So step 1 - BACKUP everything

The simple version is

extract the 4.8 install zip
transfer your current details from your web.config file into the new 4.8 web.config file (make sure you get all the needed settings otherwise you will not be able to login)
copy those 4.8 install files over the top of your live DNN installation

For full details I would suggest looking at:
How to upgrade DotNetNuke from v3.x to v3.2 on a live website
(the principles are the same as upgrading version 4.x)

How to Upgrade DotNetNuke v3.x to v4.4.1

also,
How to backup a live hosted DotNetNuke website and restore it to a localhost installation

will come in handy for test upgrading your site on a local installation before attempting the upgrade on your live website

Thanks,
