    Hello all,

I'm very new to DNN and would very much like to know more on how to work with it.  I came arcoss your site and after siffing through a few of your tutorials I'm very interesting in joining so I can learn more.

I was curious though, are the video tutorials out of date with the latest version of DNN?  At least the ones I was looking at, mostly on Skinning, seem to be from 2006.  Are you basically showing me how to create legecy skins?

When I read on DNN forums on Skinning they talks about how "DNN 5 skin needs manifest file, listing all the files in the package, a DNN 5 skin is not a simple zip file anymore."  I've also downloaded a few free DNN5 skins and after reviewing the contents, there is no skin.zip or contain.zip files, its just full of .ascx and .css files for the skin and container.

I do see that you have a lot of tutorials and articles, which I'm sure addres some of this, I may have just not gotten to them.  But since I'm so new to this, I just don't want to start off on the wrong foot.

    Thanks,
    Bob

    Hello,

Good question, the tutorials are not out of date, the principles of building a skin are exactly the same in DNN5, the only difference is they have added a few new features and a different method for packaging a skin.

These methods have been covered here:
The way the tutorials work is that we build on the knowledge from previous tutorials, so to get an understanding of skinning I would suggest you begin with issue 5 & 6 to understand the principles and then you may want to progress onto some of the CSS skinning and SEO skins tutorials followed by these tutorials above.

    Thanks,

    Lee
