Not sure if anybody has seen anything similar but I am have having difficulties with a users not seeing "bits of the page" once they have logged in.

I have some pages that are only visible to registered users with a particular role however a strange behaviour occurs when someone logs in. Whilst Title text is still visible, module content is not being displayed even though the view attribute is correctly set to "Registered Users". Even more strange is the fact that those pages which had previously been viewed ok are also now not showing module content, even those those which are "Publically" viewable to all users.

Admin user is ok. I have tried registering a new user and have given them the correct roles to view the pages / modules as required. The first time a new user logs in all is fine, the module content is being displayed along with the headers as expected. However logout, and log back in again and the module content disappears! Pages with restricted access are still displayed and visible within the menu.

The disappearing module content seems to effect all modules and is not limited to a particular type.

Any thoughts? Is something, somewhere misconfigured? It works fine with admin and one or two other users, and there would appear to be no difference in how the users are configured? Running 4.09.04.

I have not seen nor heard of that sort of problem, so I can only  ume that there is an issue with roles and permissions. Is it possible to share a URL so that I could look?

    Hi Joe,

I have sent a url and user login details via an email - hopefully you have received that?

    An update on the problem:

I have found that specifying a little bit of cache time in the module content settings/Page settings goes a long way! The module content is now appearing?? However, some module content does not allow you to set a cache time; e.g. Event list, so it is only a partial fix. Incidentally, for the events module (as indeed the others also), text in the header and footer as set within advanced settings for the event module are being displayed, but still not the content itself (and is not present in the HTML). Same can be said of the Account Login Module but here I see the Manage User Credentials, Manage p word, and Manage Profile "buttons" but not the data fields themselves and strangely the Authorize user, Unauthorize user, Unlock account, and force p word change options which normally are only seen if an administrator. Also, a page which contains the Active Forums module generates an error when some cache is added

The modules are set up to inherit from the page but the page is set up to allow the user access (via role).

Also getting an error on a page containing forums when cache turned on.  Error not very helpful.  Just says "an error has  occurred" twice - and nothing visible in events log.

    Many thanks,
    John

Thanks Lee. I must have been upgrading the site when you tried to accessed ... which has fixed it .. well kind off!

Bit the bullet and upgraded to 5.02.03. Content does now seem to be appearing apart from the "User Account" details, so user unable to make changes to their profile. However, I now have the bar at the top of the page which displays the Content and Preview checkboxes for all users, which doesn't seem to do anything but clearly shouldn't be there.

Also, the user I created for you seems to have gone AWOL - it is no longer there!

Also, I get the following two exceptions in the event log.

DotNetNuke.Data.SqlDataProvider, DotNetNuke.SqlDataProvider. Access to the path '\Cache\Modules\' is denied

    and

    Method not found: 'System.Collections.Hashtable DotNetNuke.Services.Authentication.AuthenticationConfigBase.get_ModuleSettings()'.

Also, another "interesting" feature is if I do a bulk email to users of a particular role I now only get an email sent to the first one.

Not sure if these belong to the same "family" and related to original problem or whether this has spawned 3 or 4 parallel threads!

    Ho Hum, John

Quite a few problems there that should not be happening, I can take a quick look if you want to give me admin / host access? Will probably be quicker than asking you a lot of questions in the forum, you can email me the login details if you wish,

    Thanks,

Update on a couple of the issues.

Bulk email problem seems to be as a result of me putting sight into "Test" mode and having all users with the same email address ! Bulk email setting is "One message Per Email Address (Personalized)" so not sending "duplicate" emails - so only one email gets sent! Doh!

Users were not being allowed to log in because their profile was not "complete" and setting set to "Require a valid Profile for Login". Interestingly when a user (with incomplete profile) tried to login the login page was just being refreshed without any error or message displayed - I had expected a jump to the users profile page to be allowed to enter missing data?

Not being able to view user profile when logged in seemed to be as a result of a "Permanently Redirect?" flag being set on the User Accounts page (although not sure how this got set), however still unable for the user to change their password - see the "manage password" link but clicking this just refreshes the page - have looked through settings but cannot see where this is going wrong now.

And still get the Content and preview checkboxes being displayed within the top control panel for unregistered users!

    Hello,

Just logged in as admin to take a look.

Content + preview checkboxes: Check your skin code, what is the code you have used to display the Control Panel? It should be:
    < div id="ControlPanel" runat="server" >< / div >

If you have that code I also noticed that you are using the basic Control Panel view, try changing it back to the default control panel:

Host menu / host settings / iconbar

I did a test registration with a user which then sent me to the Home page - I noticed you have set the registration to Private - if this is the case, rather than sending a user to the Home page, I would send them to a page that informs them this is a privtae registration and we will approve your registration shortly, otherwise they may think the registration has gone wrong.

    Thanks,

    Hi Lee,

I changed the Control Panel view back to iconbar and hey presto! Not only is the control panel behaving itself but the problem I had with users not being able to change their own passwords seems to have been fixed to!

Incidentally, before making this change, I also tried applying a skin which had the breadcrumb trail switched off and strangely this also removed the control panel?

Many thanks also for the pointer on private registration. Makes perfect sense. Only thing not sure where I can specify which page should be displayed post registration?

    Thanks again!
    John
