requested log for http://www.oaklandbocevents.com/

This is a group of general exception errors all for the same reason: We get this burst of errors when a lot of users are trying to register at the same time at the end of the month
for an event that occurs at the end of the month.

To the user this appears as not being able to login or being disconnected from the site.

Leading up to the end of the month, we due not get many complaints or logs noting this problems, but we due get repeated complains at this time period of every month (last few days of the month) when many users are trying to register for the event.

If we need better hosting as a solution i need advice as to what to tell the owners of this site.

also I am only showing you a small segment of these burst of time out exceptions. These occurred this morning.

Dennis,

You have a good handle on what is happening. The basic error is:

"Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool size was reached. "

What this is telling you is that this end of month event is "hammering" your database and, specifically, that your SQL Server is not able to handle the requests.

The first thing that you need to do is figure out if the SQL Server can be configured to handle all of these requests (registration generates a lot of traffic between the website and the SQL Server). Your hosting provide should be able to help with this.

Here are some things to try:

a) Increase the Pool Size for connections
b) Increase the timeout for connections
c) Reduce the size of large database tables (take a look at SiteLog and EventLog, for examples and, perhaps, search related tables)

Your hosting company should have the db skills to look at this. If not, you may need a different host, but now you have some questions to ask potential hosts.


If none of that works, please let me know and I'll try something else.
