Does anyone have experience with AM hosting? I love and use PowerDNN but would like to have a lower price alternative. AM hosting gives 50x the storage and is only $10 per month. Keepalive.com has them listed as one of the "Good" not "Slow" hosts so I was hoping this was the deal of the century. Let me know any experiences with AM Hosting.

    Thanks

    Hi Joisey,
I have a few accounts with different providers and what I've found is that PowerDNN and AMHosting are the best but in different ways.

With PowerDNN, the support is great and the sites are blazing fast.

With AMHosting, they're a smaller company and the sites aren't quite as fast, but they are cheaper.

You always get what you pay for. At PowerDNN, you're getting speed, support, and expertise. At AMHosting, you're getting disk space. Both are good options

Thanks Lee. I did setup another account with AM hosting (mostly for offsite Power DNN backups. Here are some of my initial impressions of AM hosting.

    - The control panel was not configured fully as default and required a couple help tickets to get fixed (Backup manager was missing)
-There is no automated install script for Dotnetnuke (no issue for me as I prefer doing it manually, but some users may want the easy setup)
    - The site permissions were not set right for DotNetNuke. After a bit of back and forth with support they fixed the permissions so I could install.
    - Their setup email shows an IP address for you to access their control panel. That IP address gives a certificate error and IE 9 will not allow access. After a ticket to support they told me the control panel can be accessed via a domain.
-Their setup email shows the email servers as mail.mysite.com, but they are smtp.mysite.com and pop3.mysite.com

    Here is the good now:

The hosting setup was fast and painless
The support was responsive and knowledgable.
The DNN site seems pretty fast.
They offer a good amount of disk space for the money.

Overall I really like it. I think for smaller sites this will be my hosting of choice. I will come back here in the future and give an update as I plan to build my next project on this hosting.

They need to update the email that goes to new users to make sure they arent giving incorrect info.

Hi I'm curious after reading the post above in regards to DNN install do you offer service to install DNN and how much.
Also it would be very important to have backup system in place before I purchase an account.
    Thank you

They do have backup in their control panel. It will also let you setup an offsite FTP repository for backups. I dont think they install DNN for you, but its really easy.

Ok great. I do have another concern it took them a couple of days to get back to me after leaving a message in regards to hosting.
Im hoping tech support would not be like this.

Tech support seems to respond much faster than the sales support in my experience. I just upgraded my plan and it took 3 days to get a response. I never waited more than a couple hours for tech support to get back.

Good luck and let us know how you like.

Hi All this is a quick update to Am Hosting.

I have not had much success with getting DNN running properly with this host. I have had more than one ticket in regards to there Permissions settings. It seems the permissions are not automatically set for a DNN Install. When trying to install Versions 5.6.3 and 6.0 I am always running into Security and Permissions issues. When I have asked about these I now have been referred back to it being a DNN issue and that I need to contact the Developer ???. I also have a PowerDNN account I have installed manually and by auto many time and I know you get what you pay for, but honestly all Im trying to get is an install haven't even begun to build a site.

So Im not done yet Im hoping we can come to a solution.

The last error looks like this If Im mistaken I will retract anything said here that comes off negative.
This is the error straight out of the installwizard of version 6 DNN

This is the error I get.
    DotNetNuke Error

    DotNetNuke Configuration Error

Could not find a part of the path 'C:\inetpub\vhosts\addictiondrugrehabcenter.com\httpdocs\Config\Backup_2011824138\web_.config'.Access to the path 'C:\inetpub\vhosts\addictiondrugrehabcenter.com\httpdocs\web.config' is denied.

Your DotNetNuke installation appears to have a security settings problem (most likely permissions). DotNetNuke has extensive file upload capabilities for content, modules, and skins. These features require custom security settings so that the application is able to create and remove files in your website.

Using Windows Explorer, browse to the root folder of the website ( C:\DotNetNuke by default ). Right-click the folder and select Sharing and Security from the popup menu ( please note that if you are using Windows XP you may need to Disable Simple File Sharing before these options are displayed ). Select the Security tab. Add the appropriate User Account and set the Permissions.

    If using Windows 2000 - IIS5
the [SERVER]\ASPNET User Account must have Read, Write, and Change Control of the virtual root of your website.

    If using Windows 2003 - IIS6 or Vista/Windows 2008 - IIS7
the NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE User Account must have Read, Write, and Change Control of the virtual root of your website.

Image showing the security settings for the root folder of the website must be set to Read, Write and Change Control for the ASPNET or NT AUTHORITY/NETWORK SERVICE accounts.

If any one can help point the way it would be appreciated.
    Kemper
