Hi there,

Im working on a couple of sites for non-profit organisations (so we dont have any money!) and wanted to ask your collective opinion about menus. I see the housemenu has been discussed on the DNNCreative tutorials, but it has some limitations - as far as I can see, when you want to add another root-level item to your menu, you have to adjust the skin file so it can show children of that root level (correct me if im wrong).

So which do you think is better, housemenu or snapsis (or something else?). What I want to achieve is something like this:

http://www.cssplay.co.uk/menus/pro_drop3.html (the overlap in this is not something im after. Just a horizontal menu with images and flyouts)

A simple drop-down menu with 2 or at most 3 levels. I'd *like* to use images to style the root menu items and maybe a gradient for the flyouts. It would be nice to have an animated flyout with transparency, but im prepared to go with the basic coloured flyout due to budget constraints! Of course, I want the menu to be search engine compatible so solpart is out of the question.

Cheers for your help!

Hello,

Yes you are correct. - I would go for snapsis, I have just used the menu on a project and it worked for a flyout menu. - There is a discount code for subscribers if you go to the top of this forum.

Thanks,

Oh wow, I didnt know that was still available. Im tempted to buy the developer licence with that discount, as Im likely to make more than 3 sites in my lifetime! ...

On a slightly different topic, do you use page blaster on this site? Does it really make that much of a difference? I find DNN sites load slowly, even if you trim down your graphics significantly. I remember reading somewhere that Amazon did a study and found a 1s loading time delay reduced their visitor retention by 20%!!

Cheers for your help, and good work on the videos - a big help!

I haven't tried page blaster yet. - This site just uses moderate caching and no compression.

At openforce in the performance presentation, an audience member who has created the australian rugby site said that the PageBlaster made a big difference and was better than the options in DNN.

- I am going to test out PageBlaster soon on dotnetnukepodcast.com first to see how it reacts.

Nice site - very "web 2.0" (if anyone knows what that is). Nice mugshot too btw ;)

Thanks for your help. I'll definately try out navmenu and considering the cost reduction, might as well try out pageblaster too.

Cheers,

AndyB
