I don't expect an answer to this and it may have been addressed elsewhere... BUT

It would be very convenient to have thumbnail images in the file manager.

Yeah, I know it's not a 'module' per se but it would still be a great help in managing large sites with hundreds of images.

There are modules designed to manage images. Something like that might be much more suitable for you.

I believe that I saw one module that interfaces with Flickr, too.

Who carries these modules? 

I was just at Snowcovered when your reply came in.  I didn't see anything specific there but I haven't done a thorough search of their site.

So if you or anyone else reading this thread knows of something specific, I'm all ears... er, eyes.

If you search the Snowcovered site using "Gallery" as the search term you'll find a lot of modules. Note that I haven't actually used any of these, so shop carefully.
