Good morning - I am a new subscriber to the site and I am so happy to have found it.  I am a computing professional but my skills lie in database management and I am a beginner with web skills.  I am maintaining a school web site in DotNetNuke as a volunteer. The original set up was done by someone else.  I tried to use the calendar module, but after I insert it into the content pane, the following appears below the calendar - large exclamation point in a red triangle, An error has occurred Unhandled error loading module.

Also, what is the difference between Event and Calendar?  They look very similar to me.  Do they work together?  Is anyone using either? I haven't found too much discussion in the forums, or a video lesson.  To be honest, I'm not too keen on how Event looks and I don't like being forced to do both Title and Description.

Thanks for any assistance!

Cindy

Hello Cindy,

Welcome to the forum and I'm glad to hear you find the site useful.

Regarding the calendar module, this is probably a 3rd part module as it does not come with the standard default version of DNN.

If you are receiving errors with this module i can't really provide any information as I don't know who created it etc.

Which version of DNN are you using? - Go to the Host menu / Settings to find out.

The Events module has changed a lot since v3.1 in the latest 4.3.5 version there are a lot of new features for changing the configuration of the module.

The other option is to look on snowcovered.com for a module that suits your needs, there are many events type modules out there - just make sure that you purchase a module for your DNN installation version.

Thanks,
Lee Sykes

Hello Lee - Thanks for the quick reply.  Actually, I don't think I can log in as host.  Our web site is hosted for free by nwpa.net and I assume they would have to check that for me.  The person who set up the site is another parent from the school (like me) and is very hard to get a response from--she probably is associated with nwpa.net but I don't know for sure but I will ask her who the support contact is, and I will let her know about the error message.  In the meantime, I'm using the Events module and looking over what snowcovered has to offer.

Since I am so new at this, I apologize if these are such basic questions.  I work for a university and of course we host our own web site so I've not gotten into commercially provided services, or as in our case, donated ones (we are a private Catholic school).  Even my services are donated as I have a child there.  If I see something I like at snowcovered, I presume I would have to get our host to offer it, correct?

Thank you!  Cindy

Hello Cindy - it's ok to ask questions, no matter how basic they are - that's what this site is here for!

If you purchase a module you will need to login as host to install it through the website, so I would suggest you find out who has host access to the site before making any purchases and to ensure you purchase the correct version for your installation.

Just to clarify - The person who has host access is most likely the person who setup the site, not necessarily the people who host the actual website - host access just gives you an additional menu in DNN to further configure your installation.

You can learn about installing modules here:
How to install a module to DotNetNuke

Good luck,
