As a beginner looking for a quick win I was wondering if anyone has tried either Catalyst 2 or morpheus skinlab?

these 2 have dominated the top spots on snowcovered in the skin section ever since I've been looking at DNN but I have never seen an in-depth or independent review? Although I appreciate that in the future I'm going to need bespoke skins to achieve my goals I need a quick method of rapidly creating mini sites.

Does anyone have experience of either of these products and perhaps a preference?
many thanks in advance

I have not used either. But, they appear to be quite flexible.

Some other alternatives (which I have not used either) are Artisteer(artisteer.com) and the Nucleus Skin Designer (thinkofdesign.com). We have a tutorial on using Nucleus in our tutorial library.

thanks for the input, this is my point, although top of the list nukeville.com just redirects back to snowcovered so am I wrong to be sceptical?

drnuke has this as a showcase site
http://www.themintagency.co.uk/
where the whole site is flash? and no evidence of DNN?

and this
http://www.drnuke.co.uk/Portals/43/...index.html
which is just one big image?

although they look very slick products and I dont expect them to do miracles but I'd like a bit more evidence they do the job especially if you planned to fork out $900

I would be tempted to ask a question on Snowcovered about the Nukeville product. Seeing how fast they respond is an indication of activity and interest.

Also, I would opt for the $99 version. Many vendors on Snowcovered are happy to upgrade you to a higher priced version for just the price difference, especially if you do it in a short period of time.

Also, I would not hesitate to ask for a refund if you find the product unsuitable. Just do your evaluation and ask for the refund quickly. I've used that approach on occasion.

You can also ask for a demo product, but they may not have one.

I did just see that DNN4Free has the Nukeville Skinlab skin available. So, if you create a free account and site there, you should be able to play with it.

Thanks Joseph
I tried signing up for DNN4Free but the DNS settings say
"points to this IP address: 2002:4622:2358::4622:2358"
is that a valid IP?
