In my site i used <dnn:search id="search" runat="server"/>

while tring to search i m getting the error like
A critical error has occurred.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object

any idea about this ?

When you are logged in as an administrator, take a look at the event log. You may find some additional information regarding the error. Post it here and I'll try to help understand it.
