Hi

I've been doing some research to see if I can allay concerns from a client about DNN for Mac-based users. So far what I can see is:
  • There seemed to be a lot of issues with rendering the Solpart menu on Macs, especially in Safari, but  there other skins, from Snowcovered for example, that ) that are cross-platform and cross-browser compatible
  • FCKE didn't work properly, eg no icons, updates disappearing
  • Using pure CSS skins would overcome any potential issues
I see from the FCKE site that it now supports Mac (from October 2007) so that's good, but in general, and given a lot of the posts I've seen in various forums were 1-2 years old, what's the view now on Mac and Mac browser support from DNN?

Grateful for your facts, views or experiences.

regards

I think that the Mac is generally compatible with DotNetNuke. The only real shortcoming I'd noticed was related to editing with Safari.

I'm not an active Mac user, so please don't take my words as gospel, but, there's nothing in DotNetNuke now to cause real compatibility issues. Cross-platform and cross-browser don't always mean "plays will with everything." Lee's skinning tutorials go to great lengths sometimes to make even IE and FireFox compatibility work.

Forgive me if everyone already knows this, but you can now download safari for windows at http://www.apple.com/safari/.  I'm not exactly sure if it's 100% exactly like the Apple version, but I'm sure it's pretty darn close!  Personally, it was great to be able to test the front end portion of my modules and sites in Safari without having to buy a Mac.  After already making sure everything works in IE, FF, and Opera, gladly I didn't have to make any modifications for Safari.

Thanks,
Mike

Joe, Mike, thanks very much for taking the trouble to reply.

I pointed my client to the excellent intro video on dotnetnuke.com only to find out that it wouldn't run on a Mac

I didn't know about Safari running on a PC but I'll download it and check it out.

thanks again

That's interesting. Do you know why the video "wouldn't run"? Perhaps the browser on the Mac needed an appropriate plug-in to play the video? Which video wouldn't run?

I have a client with Mac OSX (with Firefox) and experiencing a lot of difficulties editing DNN (4.8) (Radeditor is exceptionally slow and unpredictable). Same issue on all his differnet Mac. Even just using his DNN site seems much slow than on a PC.

We can't pin down exactly what the problem is when we cannot replicate any of the behaviour using our PCs.

Thoughts anyone or is this just something that has to be lived with?

Thanks James

It's been a while since I've seen a question about this, but ... there were (and maybe still are) some issues using Safari with the FCK editor.  Perhaps this is a similar issue.

Can you client download and install Firefox on his Mac?  Try viewing the site using Firefox.

As for the speed issue, I don't see how that could be an issue, but it could be a browser issue.

We've built a Catalook site for a client and it works great on PC's, but Mac users are reporting issues with product images not displaying and a more major problem is that the catagory module is also not displaying. We have researched everywhere to find a solution, but so far have not found an answer. Please help. The site is http://roundmountainsounds.com. Thanks for any help you can offer.
