Hello, Are there any implications associated with installing and running DNN on a Macintosh? Also, when I download a tutorial video on my mac, it's automaticly saved as a Dreamweaver file (default application). Can I save it and view it as a Quicktime movie? Cheers, Chris.

Hi Chris,

I don't know about Macs, so I would have a look at the main DNN forums and ask around for any experienced Mac developers. - As long as you can get ASP.NET and SQL Server running you should have no problems.

Regarding the videos, all of the videos are in Flash format, as this provides the best quality for creating video tutorials.

You can download Flash from:
http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave...sion=Shock

and you can see what version of flash you have installed using:
http://www.macromedia.com/software/flash/about/

I would recommend that you upgrade to the latest Flash version if you are having any problems playing the videos.

Thanks,

Are actually "installing and running" DNN on a Mac? Probably not... since ASP.NET and SQL are most likely running on a MS server... about the only real difference in viewing and dealing with DNN on a Mac is that the text editor won't behave in Mozilla based browsers too well.. I am about to test the FCKeditor that is part of the project list for DNN.

I had the same issues when downloading to Mac, but just unzip the file and you'll see the swf image in there.. treat it like any other flash file... let your flash player play it, or just open it with your browser.

good luck.

Thanks for the info. - Regarding the FCKEditor, I can highly recommend it, in fact I would recommend you use it for all your DNN installs. - It is a lot more stable and it creates code to XHTML 1.0 Transitional standard. - The FreeTextBox editor that comes with DNN for instance doesn't close tags on items such as line breaks - ie. <br> instead of </br>

I use Firefox with the FCKeditor no problems.

I'm actually currently creating a tutorial on how to install FCKEditor and how to set up the FCKEditor to call up classes so that you can programme elements to look completely different inside the Text/HTML editor. ie. you can have a quote class which allows you to set a section of text to be formatted completely different and allow the rest of the text to wrap around the quote section. - You may previously have used containers / tables to create this effect, but it's very easy to set up within your skin.css file and then to call up from the styles drop down list within the FCKeditor.

More will be revealed soon! I'm currently in the middle of editing all of the videos and they will be released in the next issue (April).

Thanks,
