SMTP for individual portals

I'm using DNN 7.3.3

I am trying to setup portal email from a Portal within my DNN Instance.

When I choose the portal radio button in the SMTP mode in Site settings under Administrator and enter the fields appropriately then test, it sends the message successfully.

When I click Update, the password is not saved correctly, and the password field appears to be filled with 20+ characters.

When I now click test, it throws an error. Is this a known problem within DNN or am I doing something wrong.

I've searched the internet for some time now to find a solution to no avail. I want individual portals to have their own SMTP email account set, appropriate to that portal, I do not want all portals to have to use the host SMTP settings to send the email, which is what I've been stuck with for the past 8 years.

Can this be done?
