I downloaded the videos about the core forum. Mine looks nothing like the one in the tutorial. How do I change the hyperlinked text I have into the buttons and menus like they have on the video.

Forum modules are one thing that has changed considerable over the years.

The "core" forum module is obsolete, and is not being updated.

The "current" forum module is Active Forums, a free module that is available at http://www.activeforums.org/. Is this the one that you are using?
