I am a new DNN user and am trying to remove the header pane. I have tried changing the skin with no luck and the header container does not have a drop down menu to delete it.

You have to edit the skin file to remove a pane. There are no dropdown menus associated with panes. They are only associated with modules which are placed inside of panes.

The process to remove a pane will vary depending on whether your are working with HTML skins or ascx skins. Which form are you using?
