Hi all, After installing DNN 5.04.04 with the MS Web Platform Installer on a test server (Windows 2008R2 + SQL Server Express 2008R2) I have a problem to allow site access with something else than http://localhost/dotnetnuke on the server itself. Even on the server, if I use the alias I created (servername/dnn) I reach the error 404.0 page from IIS. The server is registered in the domain. I can reach the IIS homepage from any other machine in the domain. I went through the two PDF (install & admin) provided by dnn.com and I searched on this forum but I cannot find the step I am missing. Sorry if the question as already been asked. Thank you for your help.

You will need to have servername/dnn as a portal alias.

Thank you for your answer. I already have an alias servername/dnn but when I "call" this url (even from the server) I reach the 404 page.

You may want to try to use something like Fiddler so that you can see the actual http messages.  That might help.

(I spent a couple of nights earlier in the week tracking down something like that.  There was a url rewriter screwing things up.  Is the address that results in the error the same as the address that you start with?

I had a look to Fiddler but I am afraid it’s a little bit too sophisticated for me. However please find below the “detailed error information” box I obtain from IIS when I call the url “servername/dnn” from the server itself (actually if I call the url from another machine the message is much more sorter and without any detail): Module IIS Web Core Notification MapRequestHandler Handler StaticFile Error Code 0x80070002 Requested URL http://servername:80/dnn Physical Path C:\inetpub\wwwroot\dnn Logon Method Anonymous Logon User Anonymous

This is "one of those" issues that is difficult to diagnose without actually looking at the system.  I take it that this is on a local server, so might be difficult to see from the internet.
