The Operating system on my live web server is Windows 2000 Server. I wish to upgrade currently installed DNN Verson from 4.08.02 to Version 5.01.02. Frame work 2.0 is installed on that server.

As for Frame work 3.5 and SP1 minimum requirement is Windows 2003 server and the DNN version 5.01.02 need framework 3.5. Neither I can upgrade the Server operating system nor the framework.

Can I Upgrade the DNN version to 5.01.02. I tried this on test environment and it worked fine except that it displayed the following message on host settings.

“You are running on an old version of the .NET Framework. Future upgrades of the DotNetNuke platform will require .NET 3.5 SP1 or later. If you believe you are running .NET 3.5 SP1 already, please check your web.config file and ensure that the 3.5 or above versions of both System.Core and System.Data.Linq are referenced in the assemblies node.”

My question is whether I can upgrade the version of DNN or not. is there any security rish or so in doing so.

Thanks

As the message says ... "future" upgrades will require .NET 3.5 SP1. That will apply to 5.2.x when it becomes available. You will also need to have SQL Server 2005 or higher.

You can upgrade to 5.1.2 using the infrastructure that is available to you.
