Good evening Lee

I watch the video tutorials for transfering a live site to a local host.  In the video, in the portion relating to IIS, you instruct the viewer to create a virtual directory for the local host site.  Should this instead be an Application?  I have tried it both ways and receive errors.

With a Virtual Directory:  I receive an error from the execution of the web.config.  The error is pasted at the bottom of this message.  Can you tell me if this is related to DNN, to a third party module or does this indicate that I have set the config file incorrectly?  I do have iFinity Master URL, AliCommerce and DataSprings Dynamic Forms installed and working on the Live site.

With an ISS Application:  I receive a database login error, even though the login string is correct.

Any light you can shed on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
-DL

Hello,

Before attempting to install a Live Site to a Local installation, I would recommend you test installing a fresh installation of DotNetNuke to your localhost installation.

Whether you create an application or virtual directory depends on the IIS version, so I would recommend you first of all view the tutorials on how to install a localhost installation to your computer and follow the instructions for the operating system and IIS version you are using.

Even though these are for v4.x, the same process applies to v5

a tip - If you are installing to your local computer I would also suggest you setup everything in a virtual PC as this makes it much easier to manage in the future, I have created a tutorial on this here:
