Hi Lee

Sorry to keep bothering you, but I have another problem to which I hope you may have the solution. Because you answered a similar problem in DNN forum with a workaround, when others where baffled.

Your workaround solution to the bug in DNN 4.3.4 which, when creating a new page, a module freezes, or the module dropdown actions and Edit/Text are visible to the general public, or when editing, text./html module content will not save or causes an error is:

"When adding a new page, set the 'Page Template' to  'None Specified' instead of the default."

When this workaround is applied all of the errors above dissapear.

However, in my DNN 4.3.4 I do not have the luxury of a 'Page Template' to set, as mine seems to be missing, on this site, consequently, I am having module problems (see above).

I am also missing my 'Add' link and subsequent file added display box, associated with uploading skins, containers or modules.

Do you have yet another magical workaround to find my 'Page Tempate' . 'Add' link, or if not a solution to stop the errors?

Thanks

Lynn

Hi Lynn,

I think you have got me on this one! - If you have these elements missing it sounds as though your DNN installation is corrupt.

The Solpart main menu does now work in XHTML transitional mode, so it should also work in the module menus. - You could keep the Solpart menu on the container menus which will solve the current drop down list problems.

I still prefer to not include it on the container if I am creating a pure CSS site or using a CSS menu as it means that solpart does not have to be loaded and therefore decreases page load times.

- I have discovered however that the technique I mentioned in the previous post only works for the Text / HTML module, any other modules will display an empty drop down list when logged out. - Luckily the CSS site I am currently creating only uses Text / HTML modules - I will be glad when  v4.3.5 is officially released!

I have not yet looked into Page Templates or how they are created.

If elements are missing in this way, I would create a backup of all the files first and then I would FTP up the original DNN 4.3.4 installation files over the top of the current installation - as if you are performing an upgrade. This may fill any 'gaps' in the installation or fix any corrupt files. Make sure your FTP programme overwrites the files and doesn't just skip them. - I use AceFTP for uploading installation files and FlashFXP for uploading general files as I have found FlashFXP tends to skip some of the DNN installation files.

Hope this gives you some clues, thanks,

Hi Lee

Thank you for your very speedy reply and for taking the time out of your demanding schedule to answer. I was reluctant to disturb you again, as I know you must be very busy, I have waited for an answer to this question elsewhere, but so far without a reply .

Yes perhaps you are right, reinstalling the DNN 4.3.4 files might well be the only option.  I was trying to avoid this. My hosting provider has only just installed this version after a previous upgrade and subsequent file and database restore went badly wrong and corrupted everything.  They are going to love me.

If I am going to the bother of an upgrade, do you have any news of the release date for v4.3.5, it might be worth while waiting and upgrade to the latest version, if it is not too far off.

Thanks

Lynn

Hi Lynn,

It's no problem. - Just to be clear, I'm not saying to do a full re-install, I'm just saying to FTP over the top of the current installation.

You could ask your host why the installation doesn't display the details you mention. - They may have 'tweaked' the install for their customers. If they are installing DNN for you as a service I would expect them to make sure it is fully working as well...

I don't have any information for the release date, it could be a month, it could be longer.

Hi  Lee

Thanks for the advice.

Just to let you know, I FTP'd a fresh DNN 4.3.4 over the top of my files.

This seemed to cure the missing 'Page Template', so I can now add content with the ability to save it as a workaround for the bug.

I can live without the 'Add File' , as I go direct to ' upload file'.

Cheers

Lynn
