I just need a point int the right direction to find stuff.

I have a client that wants to put his "free press" newspaper online.  These are a few things he wants:

Text that the viewer can resize:
I found a module for this at Snowcovered

A way to send email alerts sent to subscribers for certain news topics, i.e. local news, politics, sports, etc.:
I guess I'm not using the proper search criteria when searching for something like this at Snowcovered and other DNN vendors.  I'm finding modules that seem to do everything else (and a number of them seem quite old).

He wants to enable his site to provide an RSS feed; he doesn't want a reader to bring in feeds from other sites.  Is this in one of the DNN Creative tutorials?  In the last two years, I've downloaded most of the video tutorials.

Thanks!

Hi,

Lee does have a tutorial on creating RSS Feeds from within DotNetNuke portal.  Located here in the Administrative Tutorial Area:

http://www.dnncreative.com/Howtocre...fault.aspx

As far as sending email alerts, I have found nothing that does what you are suggesting, but I would be interested to see if there were one.  Please let us know.

Thanks,

Mark

Hello,

if you are looking at RSS feeds, I would suggest reading the entire Issue no 3 as that issue is dedicated to RSS.

In your situation, I would probably approach it in this manner:

Use www.ventrian.com news articles module to create RSS feeds for your articles. - an RSS feed will be created for each category that you created in the news articles module.

Then use www.feedburner.com, add your RSS feeds from the news articles module and create a feedburner RSS feed for each of the categories. - Publish on your website the feedburner version of your RSS feeds rather than the news articles module version of the RSS feed.

Within feedburner, there are many options, one of them is to email the RSS feed, so if a user registers for the email, whenever the RSS feed is updated feedburner will automatically send the latest content to the users e-mail address.

Hopefully this should get you moving in the right direction,  Feedburner is a really useful tool and it's worth experimenting with to see if it covers your needs,

Thanks,

Hey Lee.
In your opinion is www.ventrian.com news articles module still (your reply above was from two years ago) the best to create RSS feeds?  And then feedburner for publishing?

Also, this is for an Intranet.

Thanks.

I don't know if it's the "best" way, but it's a good way.
