I have the need to add a section to my skin. Basically all I want is an new content area in which to place my modules. In my case it's an area below the footer. I have a feeling that it's a matter of putting in the proper tags in the main skin template but I have no idea how to do that. Hope you can make this one.

Yes, it is a fairly simple matter. But, like most simple matters you need to have some background information to do it well. I'd recommend that you start with some of the basic skinning tutorials that are available here.
