We've fairly recently launched our own new site in DNN, and are currently using DNN whenever possible (mostly!) for our clients' websites.

Most sites use the HouseMenu, and are CSS based designs.  With some optimisation tweaking we're really happy with the load speeds compared to our earlier DNN sites.
