Some of you may be interested in knowing that DotNetNuke Corp. announced yesterday that they had acquired Active Modules, creators of Active Forums and Active Social.

Active Forums will become the "core" Forum Module and will also become an open source project. Other aspects of the Active Modules products, including Active Social will be integrated into the Community and Professional editions, with the exact breakdown to be determined later.

The DotNetNuke Forum Module will be "retired" and DotNetNuke will provide an "upgrade path" for current users of the forum module.

Yes, I'm been following this since I received the email update about it from the DotNetNuke site. Bit of "noise" about it on the blogs there but, having read the official blogs, I think this is quite exciting. I don't want to go down the route of having a social networking site but some features such as improved forums, messaging and profiles will be welcome.
