    Hi Lee

I tried to install (DNN 4.5.5 install version), following your (Issue 20) tutorial: installing DNN onto a local host (Windows XP Pro).

But when I try to install using the DNN wizard in FF I can't get past the first page as the "next" button will not work.

In IE7 the next button is ok but I only get as far as "trying to install database scripts" but never they complete they just continue forever.

Do you know of a fix for this?

    Thanks

    Lynn

    Hi Lynn,

I haven't come across this problem, I've been installing 4.5.5 on localhost without any problems. - You could try installing via the auto method rather than the wizard and see if it gets past.

    Hi Lee

    Thanks for the reply.

My previous computer had the full version of VS and SQL and I had no problem.

I have been trying to install DNN, for almost a week on my laptop, which almost went out of the window.  I have installed and reinstalled SQL Express and Developer software several times checking and rechecking the settings. I have found that SQL Express is not happy with my laptop even though I have installed all WIN XP Pro updates etc and it informs me that SQL is installed successfully.  I even tried the full MS versions, which fared no better. Today once again I uninstalled and reinstalled, but this time I reinstalled Windows XP also.  I wondered if a small Windows file might not have fully installed.

I am glad to say that DNN has now installed.  pheww!!  Time for a coffee break.

    Thanks

    Lynn

wow, yes it sounds like you need plenty of coffee breaks after that!

I have now started using virtual PC, which can really help speed up new installs and it's definitely worth checking out.

    Hi Lee,

I am also trying a clean install. I can't reinstall Windows XP though and I highly doubt it's the cause of my problem.
I removed SQL Server 2005 and installed SQL Server 2005 Express instead (to synchronise with my online environment, which runs on express). I need to be able to port as fast and reliable as possible.
The symptom of my problem is different:
When I follow your video (xp pro & iis) and use dnn 4.5.5 instead of 4.5.1, i get forwarded to //Install/UnderConstruction. The message "This site is currently Unavailable" is shown.
Do you know what is going on? Other people have experienced this as well:
    http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community...fault.aspx
They suggest something to do with the database, having had no issues with 4.5.1. Could it be that web.config settings must be adjusted in 4.5.5, even when using sql server express?

    Cheers, Willem

I've encountered this same problem this week. For several reasons, I'm trying to install on a Vista system, but I have SQL Server, not the Express version.

    Here is what I did:

    1. Start the install and verified (via the Wizard) that I had the correct file permissions and that I could access the database. I had previously created a database with SQL Management Studio Express connected to the SQL Server. I also verified that I could use the database with SQL Server Management Studio.

    2. When the Wizard seemed to hang at the datbase script installation, I stopped and then edited win.config as follows:

    - Made sure that the connection strings were ok.
    - Changed the "Use Wizard" setting to false.

    3. Browsed to the site. Then, the automatic install worked just fine. (Depending on what had happened in Step 1, it might be necessary to delete and then re-create the database.

    4. Once you get a working site installed, and before you do anything, make backup versions of both the web directory and the database. If you do this, you can restore these at any time.
