    Hi,

I'm new to the site and very much like the video tutorials which I fend very easy to understand.  Are you thinking of doing an installation tutorial for installing DotNetNuke locally?

I've downloaded some of the Microsoft ones and I cant get any of them to work at all.  I've recently downloaded and installed VWD 2005 and was thinking that I could download DNN, create a site for this in VWD, create the databases within VWD environment for DNN to work, and then run it that way.

My history is using Dreamweaver and open source coding using MySQL databases using PHP MyAdmin etc so this is all new to me.

I desperately want to install DNN locally so I can then start to learn the skinning and apply locally, rather than loggin on remotely all the time.

    Cheers

    Martin

    Hi Martin,

Glad you have found the tutorials useful, have you checked out the free localhost installation video on traincert?

    http://dotnetnuke.traincert.net/

It's slightly out of date now, but it might be enough to help you get started.

If there is a demand for a localhost installation video then I will create it, so let me know if the video above helps. I previously decided not to create the video as traincert had already created one.

    Thanks,

    Hi Lee,

Many thanks for that, I'll check which videos I have and go through them to see if I already have the traincert one.

Needless to say I'll keep you posted.

    Martin,

Make sure you read the following link (probably several times<g>):

       http://forums.asp.net/1114393/ShowPost.aspx

then when you are ready to experiment with your first custom module, read:

      http://www.adefwebserver.com/DotNet...efault.htm

They both assume VWD 2005, Sql Server Express and of course DNN 4, so are just what you want.

    Hi many thanks for that,

I tried several times to install an earlier version of DNN and get it working  in the conventional way, but gave up.  Was working ok through IIS but simply wouldn't connect to the database.

However, I plumped for the easy version (DNN4) and can now create a DNN web application within VWD.  This is very easy to do but you seem to get lots of errors and it is very glitchie when you run it from within VWD.  After reading the shaun walker post it says that it doesn't work terribly well when you  view it through VWD using Cassini, so I'm now going to view it through IIS to see if that fixes all the buggy actions.

My only question though is will I be able to use existing modules with DNN 4 using ASP.NET 2.  Also can I upload skins to DNN$ which are for earlier versions of DNN????

    Cheers.....
