Hi there...I have a skin that I have uploaded and I need a very simple answer to a probably stupid question....When I've uploaded my skin...is the skin suppose to appear exactly as the example I see on the site from which I bought the skin?? i.e. with the header images, pane images and text in place etc...? I've followed the video tutorial but not getting what I want...

I'm having a real problem understanding all this...

    Thanks in advance

Probably not. The skin is configured to provide the look and feel, but you need to add your own content to the pages. So, site logos, content text and content images are not provided by the skin. You need to provide them.

Now, the skin may provide some images, but you may need to add them to your pages.

And, you might want to provide a link that I can see the site. Please point out what you think might be missing.

Hi Joe...thank you for that...I kind of assumed that was the case. As I understand it the skin comes with the styles and pane layouts but as far as content is concerned you add that yourself...so what you see when you buy the skin is something you would need to copy (modules..etc) in order for it to look like that?? the skin I'm working on is www.copiaportals.net ....which is based upon the snowcovered "8 websites" skin...this one... http://site434.mysite4now.net/eingtech7/dnndemo/Home/tabid/3927/Default.aspx

I'm very new to this so undertanding the filing structure and what I need to edit in order to see changes is a bit of learning curve. Understanding the relationship and differences between a "Portal" and "Site" is something I need to understand more...especially when uploading a skin. So far as I understand it...you upload a skin via either the "Portal" or "Admin" if via Portal the skin is copied to all portals?? and if you upload a skin via"Admin" it's accessible to only that portal??

One more question...if I create a page (other than the homepage) can i base all other new pages on that second page (and not the homepage)?

Thanks for your help Joe and sorry for this "War and Peace" email.

    Doug

It's not that i think things are missing...it's just getting my head around the filing structure once a skin is uploaded (installed) I guess...so I can use css to style images and text positioning. (I'm pretty good with css...at least :o)

Before you get in too far, you might want to take a look at:
These tutorials should help you understand the basics.

As for basing new pages on a second page, presumable you want the layout of the home page to be different than all other pages.  You would have a skin for the home page and a second skin for the other pages.

Hi Joe...thanks for your help so far...just to let you know I managed to create a page template and am now creating new pages from it with graphics and modules on the new pages...great!

I now also have the DNN for Dummies! so I'll be trawling through that...with the occasional visit to this forum (see current new post :o)

    Thanks
