I have installed my DNN application in a folder called dnn.  If I navigate to that folder all is well and works.  I now want to put a redirect in my root folder that will bring users to the application.  Please advise how I can do this using ASP.NET and please provide a link to samples.  Are there any benefits to this approach or should I have just installed DNN into the root folder?  Since it was setup by my host I had no choice but I imagine I could change it easy enough.  Please advise.

If you are using a hosting situation, then your host should set up your website's address to point to the folder into which DotNetNuke is installed.  If there is a web site that points to the root folder -- I assume that's YOUR root folder -- then just install DotNetNuke there.

Although it refers to version 3 of DotNetNuke, the  Installing DotNetNuke 3.2 to a website hosting provider tutorial might be useful.  I'd also recommend all of the tutorials in the "Beginners" series.

You may also want to checkout the discussion in the hosting providers section for GoDaddy as they also do not install DotNetNuke into the root folder.  If you can install DotNetNuke into the root folder I would recommend you do so as it will probably make life easier in the long run.

Hi Lee,

My hosting provider says DNN root folder installations pose a security risk since the root of the site will be writable. They created a sub folder (named dnn) where default.aspx is set as my home default.

I came across your comments and wondered what possible problems may arise if dnn is not installed to the root folder. Thanks!

The main problem is that to access your site you will have a url such as: www.yourdomain.com/dnn rather than www.yourdomain.com
