i have been using dotnetnuke for a long time now. i have installed it on my pc. but whenever i load it on localhost it takes a long long time to load the page( not in seconds but in minutes) but it loads quickly when i run it online.. so what the problem can be?? is my computer slow or problem with iis or what??
my pc configuration is
p4 2.4 ghz
256 mb ram
intel 845gvsr motherboard
and os is win sp2 and using sql server 2000 database.
please tell how can i make the page load faster.
currently in task manager i can see the aspnet_wp.exe is consuming a lot of memory.. so is it because of 256mb ram.. or what please reply

hello,

I have had dnn running on various setups. - One of them is a p42.4ghz laptop with sql server 2000 win xp pro sp2.

and it runs fine. - I did have 512mb, but upgraded it to 768MB as that is the max it can hold and it did make a difference. - I would upgrade to as much memory as your board can hold.

I have a new system now with 2GB of ram and it makes a big difference in speed.

Previously I have run DNN (v2) on a 1GHz machine with 256MB ram on SQL server 2000 and it worked fine -  but there were minimal programmes installed, ie. none running in the background, so it could also be worth a check to see if  spy checkers, antivirus, firewalls etc. running in the background are slowing down your system.

Memory is always worth an upgrade, you should find it speeds up all of your progs.

Also, bear in mind, the first load of DNN takes approx 17secs and then after that each page should load just as fast, or quicker than when you are online.

Thanks,

thanks mr. lee for replying.. its nice to hear from the master. but i somehow managed to solve the problem. actually i had installed cold fusion also on the same machine. after i uninstalled cold fusion my dotnetnuke is running fine and a bit quicker. i think java was creating problems. anyways. sir i want to ask you one question. although its not relevant to this topic. i would appreciate if u reply. actually i am currently doing my graduation in electronics and communication engineering in india. i do web designing as part time. i have developed some official web sites. www.patialaheritage.in
www.chitresh.com thats mine.. and the recent one being www.chitkara.edu.in thats my institute's website. sir i have started taking interest in dotnetnuke. and have subscribed to ur videos. the question is that u being so learned and experienced.. could u tell me that should i go for learning asp.net or just continue this dotnetnuke thing. i mean i need to get a good job and thus what is better to be put in my resume.. asp.net developer or dotnetnuke master?

hello,

No problem. - for your job I would study ASP.NET as this gives you the most flexibility.  You will be able to do jobs outside of DotNetNuke, but also, you will have the knowledge to develop modules for DotNetNuke.

This should give you the most flexibility and will allow you to become both an ASP.NET master and a DotNetNuke master ;-)

Good luck, thanks,
