Hello people,

When i saved the home page of my DNN site on my computer i found 5 JS files which got downloaded with it:

- dnn.js (26 KB)
- dnncore.js (12 KB)
- spmenu.js (67 KB)
- tooltip.js (3 KB)
- webresource.js (21 KB)

My question is, can the size of these files be safely reduced by removing unnecessary functionality? this will improve the page download times of dnn sites.

Thanks in advance,

Raghu.

Hello,

Yes elements can probably be stripped out but it's not something I have done before.  One quick method of stripping out some of this code is to not use the Solpart menu in your skins or containers, this will stop the spmenu.js file from loading, thanks,

Hey guys! hows this for a good news...

the size of accompanying files have grown to 249 KB in DNN 4.5.3 (including the standard CSS files but they are a small fraction of the full load). Detailed whining in this thread on DNN forums.

Yeah, I have the same complaints. It's way too bloated, and the only resource (don't know if it's even still available) is to click the radio button somewhere in the admin or host menu, to 'do not use clientAPI'. I haven't seen this checkbox in a while--it may be in the web.config file instead. In fact, I think it is an option in the web.config file....

But an 'all or none' option is not a good one. By all means, find another menuing solution other than Solpart--it's way too large.

Remember also, that once you download js files once, they are cached, and you won't get the hit for downloading them again--depending on your browser cache settings of course. Hopefully the core team will address this issue, as it is something that has kept many developers I know from using DotNetNuke--they look at this bloat and make similar assumptions about the rest of the core--erroneous assumptions, IMO, but it is what it is...

It will be interesting to see who and how that thread you reference responds to that issue. It is usually not met well by interested parties....

Hope this gets addressed with priority.
