Hi Colin,

The banners automatically rotate in the order that you have added them to your site. But perhaps I should also explain how the banners work:

If you have banners:

1
2
3

on all of your pages and

user a visits the home page:
banner 1 is displayed

user b then visits the home page:
banner 2 is displayed

user a visits the about us page:
banner 3 is displayed

- Try this on 2 different browsers and you will see it in action. - So even if you do specify an order, the order does not appear to the actual user, eg: User a has viewed banners 1,3 while user 2 has viewed banner 2.

The first banner that you see while visiting the site depends on where the banner is in the rotation.

Hope this makes it clearer.

Thanks,

umm. OK Maybe I am explaining this wrong.

on my home page (http://www.triumph-motorcycles.net/Default.aspx) you will see the sponsors container. I want the adds to appear in a particular order. They aren't banners as such but plain old .png files. they are static.

All I want is to change the order they appear in that container. Does that make sense?

Hi Colin,

ok, I see what you are after now! - I've just been experimenting and I can't find a solution, the order seems to be completely random. - I tried naming the banners eg. a,b,c, tried naming the companies a,b,c experimented with adding them in a different order, but the ordering still seems completely random.

There must be some form of ordering that is being applied to them. I've had a look on the dotnetnuke forum and there isn't a category for the banner section, so I would create a new post over there or have a look at the asp.net forums and place a post in there.

I would be interested if you find a solution as I have not had to implement this before.

The only other way you can place several images on the page in a certain order is to use the Text/HTML module and put the images on in the order you require.

In fact you could copy the links that are currently set for each of your vendors banner ads and use them for each image you add using the Text/HTML module, this way each image will have the full tracking features of the banner module, but you now have full control over the ordering using the Text module.

Does this make sense? Thanks,

To further explain:

Insert the TEXT/HTML module to a test page
Insert each of the banner images into the Text / HTML module, press enter between each image so that the images display vertically.
Go to your current banners module page and right click on one of the banner adverts and select copy link
Go back to your HTML module, select the appropriate banner advert
Click the URL button to turn the image into a link
& paste in the link that you have copied from the banner module

Repeat for each of the images in your Text / HTML module
Click Update

In the Text / HTML module you now have images that have the banner links assigned to them, so whenever anyone clicks on an image it will update the data in the banners module.

It won't however remove the banner from being displayed when their assigned clicks have been exceeded, so you will need to monitor the number of clicks received in the vendors area and manually remove them from the Text / HTML module when their advertisement has ended.

A bit of a round about way of doing it, of course the best option is to find a solution for the ordering.

Hope this makes it clearer,
