Hi Lee

Can you tell me if it is possible to incorporate software into DNN?

The software that I am refering to is:

 "File Direct"   http://www.companieshouse.gov.uk/toolsToHelp/efSoftwareSupp.shtml

It is basically a piece of software which allows the user to "Form their Own Company" electronically  by filling in various forms.

Thanks

Lynn

Hi Lynn,

Without knowing the software, I can think of 3 ways that you maybe able to approach this:

1) Create a custom module which incorporates the form elements that you need
2) Create a html page which incorporates the form and link to the html page from a page within your DNN portal. - style it to look like any other page within your DNN portal.
3) Create a html page which only contains the form that you require. FTP it to your DNN site. Within your DNN portal, create a new page and insert the iFrame module. - Set the iFrame module to the URL for the html page that you have just uploaded. - This will display the html page within a page on your DNN site. (You will need to check that the iFrame works within various browsers)

Thanks,

Hi Lee

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly and your informative answer.

1) I am not a developer so I would not be confident in creating the module.

2) I could create an HTML page/skin if that is what you mean.

The software contains many Government Related forms which are inter-related, so the form would require database connection.  I am not sure how I can achieve this?

 3) If I used an iFrame I would have the same problem as #2

Thanks

Lynn

Hello Lee

I took your advice re: custom module.

I have started to look for a module.  Although I have not yet found one that will actually incorporate the software. To date I have seen two very impressive form creating modules:

H2O    www.OnyakTech.com

Enterprise Form

http://www.snowcovered.com/snowcovered2/Default.aspx?tabid=242&PackageID=5095.

If I may ask another question?

What are the steps I need to follow in order to allow the user to subscribe and instantly give them access to certain pages?

Thanks

Lynn

eureka;

If you need to make a connection to a database other than the one you use to host DNN on and then display the links to the forms then it's going to require a little bit of programming knowledge.

DNN is based on .NET depending on what DNN version your running so anyone that knows .NET can develop a quick page for you that you can just drop into your site and go. The display would use a .NET server control that would dynamically link your forms. I'd be happy to do the work for you. Just contact me.

The other option is to use the file manager control. I'm not sure if that's robust enough for you but it is part of DNN.

Good luck.

To setup user subscriptions follow this tutorial by Scott McCulloch
Creating Subscription Based Sites in DotNetNuke

You will need a knowledge of working with security roles and pages before looking at the tutorial, which you can read in issue 1

Hello youngboy

Thanks for the reply and the offer to help.

I have since found that it is possible to install the File Direct tools/software into DNN.  File Direct developers will insert the official forms themselves as a type of module directly into the core.

The software needs to be connected to government house and only a select number of software developers have the required permission (licence). Thus as the forms are official documents I have learned that I am unable to use my own form format and I am also required to purchase a licence for use.

Thanks

Lynn
