During your Issue 36 video I noticed that you were using VWD 2008.
Are you also using SQL Express 2008? If so is this on Vista or XP Pro?

I just tried to install SQL Express 2008 on XP Pro and ran into some account issues. If you have already resolved them I would be interested in how.

Hi Lee,

I installed VWD 2008 and setup my dnn website.
just before I restore the database from localhost to webhosting server.
I realised that the web host doesn't support sql 2008.
I am wondering, if any way, I can configure my VWD 2008 to use SQL 2005 express?
As well as, can I attach my exist database to SQL 2005 express?

I don't know, when I setup vista I installed VWD2008 and SQL Server 2005 separately, so when I installed DotNetNuke it automatically used SQL server 2005. You could try installing SQL Server 2005 and see if you can either uninstall SQL Server 2008 or set it so that SQL Server 2005 works as default. However the first thing I would do is contact your hosting provider and see if they can convert an SQL server 2008 express database to a SQL Server 2005 database, if they can you don't have anything to worry about and you can just uploaded your database to your web hosting server.

It is very difficult to convert the database from sql2008 express to sql2005 express. To answer my own question, I could not attached exisit database which was attached to sql 2008 express (come with VWD 2008) to SQL 2005 Express.

So a suggestion, if anyone install VWD 2008, you should consider your live web host environment if they are capatable to host sql 2008 database.

For those people have the same situation like me, I would suggest you install VWD 2008 without installing SQL2008 Express. After you install VWD 2008, you can download and install SQL 2005 Express from MSDN website.

Hi, I just wandering if we can expect tutorials on the installation of DNN with SQL service express 2008 and VWD 2008.
The MS Webplatform installer is automatically install these components and the low skilled users (like me I believe) are lost in process of adoption of old tutorials for the new software.
Thank in advance.

From the user's standpoint, there's little difference between the SQL Servers.  And, you don't need VWD unless you plan to do coding.  If you plan to use it for skin development, you won't notice much of a difference.

Thank you, I'm sure what functionality is pretty close. Althouth during tutorial on the installing DNN for Win XP home Edition, the Microsoft Visual Studio is used. The lastest packages are not include these tool and as I understood the VWD can be used instead for the istallation process. In fact I'm not going to do any development, I just need create DNN sites on the local PC by using ready modules. But the installation on the local machine takes a time.

If you just want to install DotNetNuke on a local system, I would recommend that you use the "install" DotNetNuke package.

If you are installing DotNetNuke 5.2.1, you will need to have IIS, SQL Server 2005 (or higher), and ASP.NET 3.5 SP1 installed.  Our tutorials should give you the basics for installation.  You will also find some installation instructions here.

If you have XP Home, you'll need to make sure that IIS is installed.

If you don't entirely understand all of this, you might want to try using the web installer version as it will install all of the prerequisite software, and then will install DotNetNuke.

You might also benefit from a copy of the book by Chris Hammond and Pat Renner.  It is aimed at beginners.

If things go wrong, ask LOTS of questions here and we'll do our best to help you out.
