Hello,

I am very new to DNN and I have followed the tutorials as far as I can.
I have a very serious problem now... I can't login to work on the site.
I login and it takes me update profile then I clidk update and get this message:
A critical error has occurred.
Multiple controls with the same ID 'icoPreferences' were found. FindControl requires that controls have unique IDs.

I have no idea what this means... I was creating links last night and copied and pasted urls. I did not give anything and ID...
When I quit working about 3am everything was working fine. Today I can't login.
It is not just the Admin but all users...

Any and all help is needed. This is way over my head.

Can anyone help!!
Is there a fix for this or do I have to reinstall DNN and start all over? I have an associate that says it can not be fixed I have to delete the site and redo everything. I really hope my associate is wrong because I have almost 4 weeks worth of work that will have to be redone.

This is where I set the settings that messed it all up. I didn't finish the tutorial before I logged out.

The tutorial
Enforcing Terms and Conditions on User Registration in DotNetNuke 4.3 and 3.3

You don't have to reinstall ...

It would appear that you've done something with the registration module that's causing the problem. Most likely, you've entered something badly in the user profile and you've made it required -- that's part of the enforcing agreement to the Terms and Coditions.

If you can get into your database with something like SQL Server Management Studio Express, you'll need to look at the ProfilePropertyDefinition table. I'd try setting the values in the "Required" column to False for every property. If you do that, I think that you'll be able to log in again.

Then, you'll need to find the offending property (it's one that was set to True) and fix it. I think that the way to fix it is to verify that you can adjust the property, save it, change it again, etc. When you can do that, it should be safe to set this to a required property and try again.

Please let me know how this goes. I was looking through the same article yesterday and do need to implement something like this on a site I'm helping to develop!

just to follow up, if you are experimenting with the registration tutorials I would recommend you follow the tutorial first on a test installation rather than apply the tutorial to the site that you are working on just incase you come across any problems. It is probably also worth creating a backup of your DNN site that you are currently working on as it would not be good to lose your four weeks worth of work.

Thanks,
