We are hosting with Re-Invent.com, a DNN host that doesn’t allow Control Panel access. We are therefore left with an option of using the “Data Publishing Wizard” to access our server database.

Re-invent recommend this tool, but does not provide any support for it.

Are here anyone in the DNN community that are familiar with this program?

Here’s the tool explained:

http://www.codeplex.com/sqlhost/Wiki/View.aspx?title

And here is the entire login problem explained.

http://www.ollepersson.com/flash2008/sqlWizard.html

Any suggestions would be welcome!!

Cheers

I believe that I've seen references to modules that will backup a site for you, even without access to the database. Check Snowcovered.

I also use re-invent for hosting a couple of my domains. I chose them originally because they were one of the first to support .NET 3.5. Then later I discovered DotNetNuke and wanted the ability to transfer my sites back and forth between my localhost and the re-invent live host. I placed a query on their forum describing my desire for the ability to transfer my site up and down using something other than raw ftp. Here is the link for my post and their reply on the re-invent BB Unfortunately their solution is a $60 suggestion. I have not looked further into the package they suggested because I am not ready to spend the money, but also because I am still studying the DNN tutorials here at this site and just haven't gotten back to live site development. I hope my post is somewhat related to your dilemna and gives another possible avenue towards the solution you desire. If you come up with further information for a solution, please post as I would be interested to hear what you come up with.

Thanks Puuri.

My first thought was that it sounds like Re-Invent.

I believe it’s a very price competitive hosting, but after that they can provide a backup; $15.00 each, Pointing additional Domains, $15.00, you can get extra Database Space $5.00 per month, they can renew your DNN version, $15.00 and you can have extra E-mails $5.00 per month……

When I checked it out I found this one was referring to a third party tool.

I have just downloaded the files through my FTP, takes a bit of time but I haven’t worried about it.

I was more concerned about the SQL-database, I did Lee’s Tutorial about backing up and install locally – I wasn’t able to get it running on my local machine since I didn’t have the database.

Have you managed to get a site running locally Puuri?

It doesn’t seem like the DNN Module backup the SQL database at all ???

Re-Invent does daily backups and are able to restore the site, so that covers a bit of what the DNN module does anyway.

Thanks for the ideas.

PS. Joe, this must be the Snowcoverend Module you referred to???

Actually there are several, and they claim to backup the database, too:

I have no experience with any of these. I like to move things for remote sites with either FTP or with Remote Desktop.

@ollep - I haven't tried to bring my site local, but will give it a go and let know what I run into. However, it may take a couple of days before I get back to this...many other fires... You have a very astute observation on re-invent pricing practices. I had originally liked them only because of their support for ASP.NET 3.5 so that I could use VWD 2008, but now that I have discovered DNN, the evaluation of hosting capabilities has changed. I will try to reply back soon.

Thanks Puuri.

Looking forward to hear how you go transfering to local host.

And I will have a better look at Snowcovered and see what's available.

Cheers...
