Hi!

First of all, thank a lot for great articles and tutorials. They are really helping me a lot.

I have a question about the video in issue 21 about the Scheduler .
In the sceduler there is this entry:
DotNetNuke.Services.Log.EventLog.PurgeLogBuffer, DOTNETNUKE

As far as i can see this is not enabled at all in a default DNN installation. Why? What is the point to set it run every minute as you do in the video?
Could this not affect the performance of the DNN portal in a negative way?

The reason I ask now is that I have some bad performance issues with my portal and I try to find the reason. My host says there seems to be some script in my site running very frequently (every minute or so) that makes the the application restart.
Could this be due this setting is set to 1 minute?

If the scheduled items aren't enabled, they won't run and won't affect your site's performance.

You can look at what is enabled in the schedule to see what is actually running. Your host should be able to tell you what script is running, too. As far as I know, these don't restart your application either.

Does your event log show frequent restarts? Does it show other things happening that might cause this?

Right now I have disabled it. But I have had it enabled for a while.
I don´t really understand what the entry does. What´s the purpose of enable it to run every minute as you do in the video, but it is disabled in the default DNN installation?

Can you explain this to me?

Best regards Petri

Hello,

It's there to clean out the log buffer - the default setting was 1 minute so that was the setting I used. - Nothing is enabled as default in the scheduler for cleaning out the site logs, but the problem with this is that it causes problems with your installation. It has been known for the site logs to grow so large that it impedes on performance so much that the hosting provider closes down the site (this has happened to me).

So that's why those elements are enabled in the Scheduler in the tutorial, to ensure that performance stays high by cleaning the logs.

Those settings are currently enabled on DNN creative and I haven't come across any performance problems - it should not cause your application to restart.

But, if you are having problems I would suggest you stop all of the scheduled items and then enable them one at a time to see if any of them are affecting the performance. - Your problem could be coming from a module for instance, it could be worth checking the event log to see if anything strange is occurring in there.
