Love your work thus far. It has been very informative. As a registered subscriber I was curious when the next issue will be out and what kind of stuff you have planned?

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Glad to hear you've found the information useful. A new issue is released each month. The next issue is due in March, I try to release each issue as close to the 1st of each month as possible, but it depends on how much content I try to create for the issue.

The next issue is a continuation of the skinning section, continuing the 'How to build a website' series, so there will be a few videos following up on the previous tutorials. - I've just created a couple of articles looking at skinning coding best practices and a 9 page article on how to test skins.

I am also in the process of 3 interviews related to skinning and web design.

Over the past month I've spent my time exclusively researching pure CSS layout skins and have created the skin you can see here: http://skins.dnncreative.com - this skin will be released for free, but I need to create some documentation to accompany it.

Alongside this will be the launch of a new website which is completely free and open to the community to contribute to. - This was requested by the users in the asp.net forums, so I have set it up as a free resource: http://css.dnncreative.com - this is a resource for sharing info releated to creating pure CSS layout skins.

As you can see, there is plenty of content planned, is there anything in particular you are looking for?

Thanks,

Lee Sykes

Actually, the skinnin stuff is a fantastic resource.  The skinning area is a big black hole for many people... especially skinning sites to not look so dnnish (new word, just made it up myself)  i like dnn alot and find it very useful, but we are continually fighting against building sites that have that sort of 3 pane look thing going on.  Another very useful article would be something related to converting html skins such as template monster to dnn... i have seen a little on this, but nothing in depth.  I would also like to see tips on incorporating streaming audio and video and lets not forget how to get the most use out of the solpart menu.  It would be great to get some in depth reviews of other menu system that are available too.

Thanks,
Jeff

Just been having a glance at Template Monster, could you give me an example of the style of skin you would be looking at? - eg. Business?

- A lot of these have flash animations, would you be looking at taking the design as inspiration or buying the entire template and converting it to DNN?

Would you be looking for flash or a static version?

It will be several issues before I tackle this, but it's good to start researching early and trying test versions.

Thanks,

Lee, I think those are all possibilities.  We have clients that come to us and want a site that looks like site xyz or a site with a template from template monster or somewhere... problem is they need functionality not offered in those templates but they like the graphics, the flash or both. We are then faced with having to try and wrap dnn around what they like visually. Unfortunately it's not always easy... :-)
