Hi,
Just wondering if anybody is using CrystalTech to host a Dot Net Nuke website because i have just transferred my site here from Ihost, and i seem to be having a problem with my email.
Just wanted to check what the smtp settings should be in the host settings, as i am not able to send a 'test' email without an error message being displayed.

The error message is:
Mailbox unavailable. The server response was:  No such user here

I get this error message when i log in as host, go to host settings, then advanced settings, then SMTP server settings, next, in this area i click on TEST.

I can send emails from my hotmail account to my email address (matt@reason4tutorial.com), but when a new user registers i no longer receive an email notification.

I have a hosted domain: www.hosteddomain.com
then i have 7 portals within that installation: www.domain1.com, www.doamin2.com ..etc..

The host settings are global to all portals, so i can log into any portal as host and change the host settings.
I have set the smtp server setting to mail.hosteddomain.com, i'm assuming that this is correct as it worked when i was with ihost.
I have also set SMTP Authentication: Basic
And SMTP username and password are set to valid values corresponding to an account that is setup in my SmarterMail account for the hosteddomain.com

Email issues always get me really confused, so any help would be great.

Many thanks,
Matt.

Is mail.hosteddomain.com the correct name for your NEW SMTP server? If you were using that with your previous host, then you probably need to change it.

You should check with Crystal Tech to see which server you should be using. And, you should be using a username and password that is valid for that server.

I am having the same issue with my DNN site hosted on Crystaltech.  I contacted them a few weeks ago and they gave me PHPMailer to look at for code references (?)...  anyway, they say to use "mail.yourdomain.com" as the SMTP server, but that didn't work for me.

I have another .NET site that I created (not DNN) on Crystaltech that sends email successfully using the .NET SendMail function specifying as parameters their email servers that are named something like mailaXX.webcontrolcenter.com, and use my username  user@domain.com and password to send emails with ok.  This works.

So I think it is something related to DNN settings.

Feedback much appreciated.

You should use the settings that you use in the SendMail function to configure the SMTP settings in DotNetNuke.

Aha!  I found the problem.  In your Host Settings, make sure that the Host details refer to a server on the Crystaltech web host, otherwise the Crystaltech servers will think you are a spammer trying to relay email through them.

Hope that helps someone else

Which host settings? Do you have to use a host email address that isn't foreing?

At Host->Host Settings->Host Details, change your Host URL and Host Email to the same domain name as your site itself, eg. if you host your site on the domain www.joebloggs.com, then your host URL entry should be something like "http://www.joebloggs.com" and your email should be anything@joebloggs.com.  This is all in addition to having the correct SMTP server settings on the same page of course .

Cheers!
