Hello,

I am new to DNN.  I installed DNN 4.8.2, IIS 5.0, SQL server express on windows xp professional.  I unzip DNN in c:\dotnetnuke and give full control of the directory.  I created dotnetnuke virtual directory.  When I do http://localhost/dotnetnuke I got a message:

"The site is currently unavailable please check back later"

Can someone please tell me what i do wrong ?

Thank you

Did you see any installation happening first?

If you didn't, try browsing to localhost/dotnetnuke/install/Install.aspx and see what happens then.

For more information, you might want to take a look at How to install DotNetNuke 4.5 to Windows XP Pro with IIS.  The instructions should be pretty much the same for 4.8.2.  The big difference is the installation wizard that is now part of DotNetNuke.

- The installation wizard is covered in those tutorials and is identical to installing 4.8.2

hi Joe,

I did what you told me http://localhost/dnn/install/install.aspx and it came back the same thing:

This site is Currently Unavailable

Please check back later

I am so clueless of what i need to do next.

Thanks

put a file called App_Offline.htm in the root directory of your site (the same one that web.config is in). The file should have the text "Hello" or something that you will recognize in it. After you do that, try the various ways of browsing to your site. If you see the content of the page, you will know that the website is configured correctly. If you don't see that file, then your website is not configured. Then, you at least know that your problem is with IIS and not DotNetNuke.

If you can see the file, rename it to App_Offline.htm-1 or something. IIS will no longer serve it, but will try to serve your site.

Let us know if you can see the App_Offline.htm page, then we'll figure out what to do next.

The hello.html page worked and did rename hello.html to hello.html-1 and i got page not found.  So it is working as expected.  I still get the site is currently unavailable message when i rerun install.aspx again

I don't have any ready suggestions. You might want to delete the installation, review the installation instructions, and try again. Try to follow the tutorial step by step.

Hello,

You say you created a hello.html page - did you create a file named app_offline? - I have attached one here as an example.

Extract the zip and place the file in the root of your DotNetNuke installation files, enter the URL to your DNN installation and it should display the app_offline file rather than the DNN portal,

Thanks,
