Hello again,

I've been asked to use a flash header in my dnn site. It been made to look like a radio with volume controls and plays background music. Thing is this header needs to be displayed throughout the whole site playing away uninterrupted ( i.e. should be able to survive page loads ). The client produces music and video clips and would like to play it within the flash header when a user selects a link in the dnn part of the site.

I think I can be safe to assume that flash is capable of dynamically playing flv files. My thoughts are that i could write a custom module that could take the locations of the flv files and a thumbnail pictures to create a links (of some sort) so that when selected by a user it would emit the proper javascript/flash action code to the flash header to play that particular clip.

The hurdles I see are:

  1.  how can I  get the flash header to behave itself while the DNN part of the site is doing page loads/post backs. I'm guessing frames may work (not search engine friendly and I'm not sure how dnn copes).  Also flash 8 seems to have some nifty new features that may be useful . . . .i hear vague rumours of caching or something . . .?
  2. my lack of flash integration knowledge . Is there a better way of doing what I'm trying to achieve?

Flash 8 is being used to author the header.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

regards,

Adam.

Hello,

I'm not too sure how you will deal with page loads/post backs, what I would suggest is to visit any other site that has set this up and see how they have implemented it. - In most cases you should be able to adapt their methods to work in DNN. - Let me know what you find, I will be very interested to hear about it.

Integrating flash into a skin, you may find this tip useful. - I'm currently in the middle of editing the videos for the next issue which uses flash text to replace any header text - this basically allows you to use any font you wish for your titles, have a look at the demo page: http://skins.dnncreative.com/sifr/Home/tabid/68/Default.aspx

The flash file that is called up here is placed directly in the skin zip file and then all you need to do within the actual skin.htm file is place the following code for the source of the flash file:
"<%= SkinPath %>flash_file_name.swf"

Using this, DNN automatically creates the URL to your skins folder and places it infront of your flash filename. - You can use this technique for integrating any other types of files within your skins.

Hope this tip is useful, thanks,
