Hi Lee Im looking to do this to - but before I do I would like when members sign up in my dnn portal that they would automatically be subscribed to the newsletter group at constant contact - have you created a form to do this? constant contact sent me their API's and documentation, but need someone with more advanced skills then I to make that happen. If you have written this could I buy it from you? Or could you recommend a person?

No I haven't set this up, I just export the list directly from the members who are subscribed to the newsletter role. - This has been on the 'to do' list for a long time. - www.dnnguru.com is a good place to get dnn developers. Thanks,

Any update?  I have a client that wants his DNN users to automatically get Constant Contact signup...

Otherwise, is the export/import pretty smooth?

I still haven't looked at the automation. - I do the import / export using SQL server and running queries - it's not ideal for a client to be doing this, but for a web designer it is relatively straightforward.

A module for this should be pretty simple to create for an experienced developer, so it may not cost much if you try outsourcing at www.dnnguru.com

We used form master and created a newsletter sign up form. Constant contact gave us the API information and we use the "silent post" feature in formaster to pass the data to constant contact.  this works great EXCEPT this only adds user to the constant contact mail list at constant contact - it does not create a user on my dnn portal. So for us it usable but I would love to figure out how to have a form create a dnn user also---- let me know if you figure it out

I'm new at this, but can somebody clarify the major advantages of using one of the services like constant contact? Doesn't DNN include built-in functionality for drafting and sending newsletter type e-mails to your subscriber list based on roles? Do the services merely provide more features? Better interface? Or is it a bandwidth issue related to the size of your subscriber base and/or the size of the messages you are sending?

I guess my point is partly - why would I want to pay for another service to manage newsletter delivery when I can (in theory) do this easily myself via DNN?

Hello,

Good question. - I had to look for another way of sending emails once my list grew above 1000. - After 1000 it would struggle to send them all. The other advantage you get is that these online email services work to get a high deliverability rate, so basically you are more likely to get your emails delivered through a service rather than sending through DotNetNuke. They also have options for delivering both text and text/html newsletters and it automatically sends the version that is suitable for the users client.

If you are starting small, there is no reason why not to use the built in DNN newsletter and then once your list has grown you can look at other areas. - This helps to minimise your costs and test if people are interested in receiving your newsletter before paying for a service.

Lee thanks for the feedback. One other thing to consider is when sending out newsletters is the volume of emails that comes from your server/domain and maybe considered as spam server if not done properly. Of course I have not found clear details to what "properly" is and have fought with these issues for years. I had to stop sending email newsletters from my server because of "AOL" alone block emails to our members and prevented them from receiving their registration information causing us to lose business.
