WOW!  What an incredible Package offer...BUT...

As I was signing on I read the terms of service,  something I have rarely done, and I found this:

Mail Restrictions;

DataPacket allows customers to operate small double-opted mailing lists and news letters. Large mailing lists or other mailings with over 30 recipients are not supported and are better hosted with another provider. Mailings with a bounce rate higher then 3% will be considered spam.

I am going to develop a DotNetNuke site that requires joining (opting In) with forums that allow members to be emailed when someone makes a post in an interested forum.  I will also want to use the DotNetNuke newsletter facility for my members.   Like everyone else I hope to have thousands of members.   They have a generous Unlimited Email accounts and Unlimited Multi-Recipient Addresses policy. They also host DotNetNuke.

How can theyhave fine print in the “Terms of Service” that limit you to 30 recipients?  Am I misunderstanding something here?

I am against SPAM and illegal use of the interent but am I being paranoid here or is this a scam to bring you in and then cut you off?  I don't want to slam them.  I may well be naieve so please set me straight.  Are other hosts following the same restrictive rules?

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

I haven't come across any other hosting provider limiting email newsletters in this way so I would email Datapacket support and see what the limitations are. - Let us know what they say.

Regarding emails:

On DNN C. all of the forum emails are sent through the hosting provider, but for newsletters I use an outside service.

I found that once I went past 500 users on the email list through DNN, problems occurred and the emails would not get delivered. - Therefore I now use www.constantcontact.com

I export the users that are listed under security role of Newsletter from DNN and then import them into constant contact. - This is a good service and you know that your emails are delivered successfully. - Something to think about.

Thanks,

Lee

Thanks Lee, I have heard of Constant Contact and will consider them though I am disappointed in having to consider the extra step and cost.

I have contacted their support and am awaiting a reply which I will post.

Here is the vendors reply on 7/5/2006:

Hi Michael,

Basically we do not support bulk email, which is to send hundreds of messages at one time. You can have a forum that gives an email notification, that should be okay unless you have hundreds of active users at one time. That type of usage would not be ideal to use on shared servers.

Thank you.
