Has anyone had any trouble using the Biography field in a users Profile?  When I add HTML code into this field and save it, it renders out as plain text html on the screen.

For instance, when I type:

This is a test.

The next time I view it, or edit, it displays the actual html including the < STRONG > tag.

Any help would be great as I intended to use this page for users to post HTML bios about themselves.

Thank you in advance,
Jones

You need to make sure that you enter HTML in the "Source" or other raw view in the editor. The good news is that you can highlight and cut what you have entered, and then go to Source mode and paste. Click the Source button one more time, and you should see the WYSIWYG text.

When you click the "Source" button, it will darken to indicate that it is in HTML mode.

Yes- and thank you.

That is not the problem though-  To reproduce this error and see what I am talking about (using DNN 04.09.00)... log in and click on your name to see your user settings.  From there click "Manage User Profile"  From there click in the Biography field and type, "This is a test."  Then make the word "test" bold using the WYSIWYG editor.

Click "Update" and then return back to that same screen again by clicking "Manage Profile".  You will see that the HTML was not saved and now the HTML code is in the WYSIWYG view.  It doesn't save correctly and re-render this view.

I even went through the tutorial on this site for creating a custom user registration page and tried this with a new rich text field (instead of the Biography field) and this didn't work either.

I want users to be able to add a bio about themselves including an image.   But if you try to add an image- this error prevents it from saving the code as HTML- it displays the image code instead of the image.

Does anyone know of a work around or a fix for this?  I've researched on the internet and didn't find much.  There are a few links that mention this bug. One suggestion was to turn off Ajax from the Host menu but that didn't work to fix this problem for me- and besides some of my modules use ajax.  Another link suggested modifying the FCKConfig.js file within the FCKEditor Providers folder- and so far, playing around with these settings has not worked for me either.

I would appreciate any help anyone can provide at this point!! Thanks!

Oh, thank you for reminding me ...  I struggled with this one about 6 weeks ago and should have remembered it.  Yes this is a bug, and it is a bug with the FCK editor implementation in DotNetNuke.

Fortunately, this is a bug that you can fix!

Visit the FCK Editor Provider Forum at DotNetNuke and read the first thread about the Beta version of the provider.  Basically, you will need to download and install a new version of the FCK Editor Provider.  As I recall, you also need to make a one-line change to a .js file.

That worked for me.  Let us know if it works for you ...
