Hello

I have developed a site in DotNetNuke - DNN.
I have transfered all the files with the help of my FTP program AceFTPPro3. What's my next step so that all my website content can be published and visible on my website?

Does anyone here have any experience of this host provider (EasyCGI)?
I want to make my website visible, is there anything I need to do so that this can happen?

regards

Alexander

Like Rob says I would contact them direct. I actually recorded some videos for Easy CGI quite a while ago now, but cant remember the process. Perhaps if you look around Easy CGI those videos may still be available.

Thanks,

Hi

yes I posted a ticket a while ago, and I got an answer that some dude would look into it, within 48h. I think thats bad service, I mean publishing the websites content is one of the more important things. I thought they should know at least how to publish the sites content?

I just want to make my website public.

I read a thread on the DNN.com forum but can't really get this to work.

http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/108/threadid/213261/scope/posts/Default.aspx

Can anyone explain this better to me...?

they seem to be overcomplicating things on that post.

So, have you created a local installation of DotNetNuke and you wish to transfer it to your live website? Have you had a look at this tutorial:
How to transfer a localhost DotNetNuke installation to a live website

it may help to make things clearer, thanks,

Hi

I have done everything your excellent tutorial video says.
I have used AceFTPPro3 and transfered all the files.

I have logged into EasyCGI my host povider, and found all my files in the dnn-folder, I guess the transfer was a succes.

If I understood your tutotial correct the only thing I needed to do were transfer my content from local host to my host provider, and then everything would be public for everyone to see?

I get the feeling that EasyCGI don't have the best DNN-expertise availible. I got an answer late last night saying that my installation was wrong.

My original message to EasyCGI

Hello

I have developed a site in DotNetNuke - DNN.
I have transfered all the files with the help of my FTP software. Whats my next step so that all my website content can be published and visible on my website mywebsite.com?

Got this answer from them...

Hello Alexander,

Thank you for contacting Support.

We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. I have asked a member of our team who specializes in Web site to review your issue. You should be hearing from this specialist within 24-48 hours. If you have any questions in the meantime, please let us know and be sure to refer to the link http://www.easycgi.com/member/sconsole for the quickest service.

Thank you for choosing EasyCGI, we appreciate your support.

Sincerely,

Alwyn Dunn
Customer Support

This is their internal discussion + the answer they sent me, witch is public for the customer...How are they thinking? seems to me they are lost and guessing?

Reported symphom:

Alexander contacted us saying that he has created the Web site using the DotNetNuke. He also said that he has uploaded the files to the account using the FTP and wants the web site to publish. I have checked the account and noticed that the files are in the folder ‘dnn’.

Diagnosis:

May not be installed correctly.

This is the last answer I got from them

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us.

I have checked the issue and noticed that the ‘Dotnetnuke’ is not installed correctly. Please installed the application from the install central and verify this from your end.

If you have any further questions, please update the Support Console.

Sincerely,

Aleta Meyer
Technical Specialist

I don´t really understand what they want me to reinstall? I thought that after using the FTP all would be public on my www.mywebsite.com

Alexander

Hello

FYI...

I have reinstalled DNN at EasyCGI, and now I get another error LOL!
I get this errormessage:

Service Unavailable

HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable.

I know this is a bit offtopic and not so much DNN-related.
I just wanted to tell you how it went.

In conclusion I will problably transfer my site to some other host provider.

thanks for everything, you rock!

Regards
Alexander

Installing DNN should not be a hard process and should just work if the files have been uploaded correctly and host sets the correct permissions. Look for a provider that has a auto-installer for you of the DNN, This will help speed things up.

Best of luck in your search.

Hi again my DNN friends

I just finished a livechat conversation with a "technician" at EasyCGI. When I asked him about my ticket and what was wrong, he replied "I've no idea!"

This is getting hilarious every hour that goes by .

For anyone who is considering EasyCGI, STOP and read my passed postings.

I just recently switched from WebSecureStores to ResellerChoice for hosting. Reseller Choice provides an installer for DotNetnUke, currently 4.9.0 and 3.3.7.

They offer a small 5 domain packs with either individual databases or seperate databases. There was a code put out on this forum that offered 50% the first month that directed me there.

The best part is the dotnetpanel which is so much more intutitive than the Helm control Panel on WebSecureStores. You have full control of settin up Web Sites, domains, e-mails, databases, etc.

Their technical support is awesome too and very patient with a newcomer to DNN.

Amazing - I'm going through this exact same thing with EasyCGI! I managed to successfully install dotnetnuke version 4.8 about 2 months ago and everything was working great. But, now all of a sudden my site is giving me a wide variety of sporatic problems.

I've received the 503 errors and last night I even received errors indicating it can't connect to the database. These problems are not consistent which is the most frustrating part. I've contact customer support several times and I feel like I get the run around. They don't offer any technical assistance in terms of running diagnostics, checking logs etc.

They are going through a migration with there shared web hosting services that I think may be causing some of the issues. Their old setup was where they had one server for several clients and now they are moving to a server farm according to an email I received. I think it's time to find a new hosting provider. EasyCGI is not worth the aggravation.

I'll let you know how it works out. I think I opened up about 6 tickets with them so far.

Let us know how PowerDNN works out. I will probably be looking for another host in the next 24 hours. Ahhhh, isn't this fun!

You may want to ask them to reset the correct permissions on your DotNetNuke installation files, some of the permissions may have been lost when the files were moved to a new server.

Here in the United States we're celebrating a holiday called Thanksgiving.    For those of you who may not know, it's a time where we eat Turkey and reflect on all of the things that we are thankful for.    I'm thankful for the fact that there's a happing ending to my EasyCGI story:

Apparently, several weeks ago, EasyCGI went through a huge migration where they tried to move over 15,000 clients to a new server setup.   There are tons of forums on the internet that have documented the frustrations and issues that people are running into.     I have personally been subjected to over 3 weeks of back and forth discussions with EasyCGI to get my client'swebsite up and running.    First, they attempted to move the site to a new server and the database was never copied over.   Then,  they restored the database and I soon found out that any user setup on the original database became corrupted and had to be re-created in order to work correctly.  There were tons of other problems we ran into after this.

Luckily, my client contacted EasyCGI managment with a list of complaints and was able to get his money back.           Good times...
