I am having problems with numerous errors trying to move a DNN 4.8.2 website from a shared hosting provider to a company-owned Windows 2003 server. The server is now running a DNN 4.5.5 site with no problems.

It almost appears that when trying to browse to the new website, which was created in a new virtual directory, it is looking at the 4.5.5 installation's web.config file which is causing the errors. I have triple-checked that all of the files for the 4.8.2. version are on the new server and that the web.config file has the correct database, machine keys, etc.

This leads me to ask the question: Is there something I am missing when running two instances of DNN on the same server? I just created a virtual directory in IIS and pointed it to the folder containing the DNN files I downloaded from my hosting provider and modified the web.config file to use the SQL Express database that the SQL DB was restored to.

The string of errors I am seeing when trying to browse to a localhost copy of the site refer to all of the strings in the HTTPmodules section as "already installed". After commenting out each one, I finally get to an "Authentication" error, which after some help from the project leader for the Authentication module, is still appearing no matter what the settings of the web.config file are.

The site should have loaded on the first try as the previous site did. That is why I am wondering if I am missing a step in configuring the server for hosting two or more and differrent versions of DNN.

Thanks in advance for any insights into this problem.

Frank

Did you also add a portalalias entry for the moved site?
