Well i have doing this two websites for the last couple of weeks, and i asked a lot in the forum about, so probably many of you already saw the websites.. but now, that they are finished i would like that you if possible have a look and tell what you think, the url's are:

Wow, those sites both look really professional. I really like the composite mouldings. Nice boat!!!


Some comments:

For composite, there is a lot of text on this site. Bear in mind the average web viewer is lazy and won't be bothered to read more than a few lines of text, unless its something they are specifically interested in. Keeping text succinct yet allowing people to view more is difficult but it works. Perhaps using an announcements style module would allow some (but not all) text descriptions to be truncated with a "more ..." link if people want to see more.

Other than that its great. really looks good.

For Fasset:

1. The flash on the homepage is good, but I would suggest making a different movie for all other pages, otherwise every time you switch pages, the "Fasset" logo jumps in from the left. So for instance, if you had an animated slide in movie for homepage, then another movie where the logo text was static but the red dots moved on all other pages. Otherwise its distracting (I think)

2. For the maps, I suggest maybe using google maps plugin. This one works great.

Hello Andy..

Sorry for post so late after your answer.. but, well for composite the text in the homepage it was a specification of the company. About fasset, i will take in consideration your points to the next's websites, these two actually now are already live, and about the map i will take a look at this plugin, i yet learning about the google maps.. the urls for the lives websites are: (because the fasset link in the old post is already out of the air, and in the next days i will remove the temporary url for composite too)..

Hello Jorge,

Taking a look around your compositemouldings.com site heres some things I've noticed / things to consider for future sites if you agree with what I list here.

HOME PAGE
The imagery is very nice, but (arguably) takes up too much space.  From a 1024x768 resolution standpoint, I tend to try and get most if not all of my featured/most important content on the top fold.  Your large picture of the boat prevents visitors from seeing that you are offering "News Articles" and "Case Studies".

Yes they can see it if they scroll down, but as web designers we want to make the user have to do as little as possible to see what we want.

Suggestions/How you could come up with a solution
There is alot of whitespace above your menu-links.  If you shrunk down the menu a little bit and the logo you could have some more space, and by cropping that huge banner pic, u give yourself an amazing amount of space to rock out in.  Here's a link to something I just whipped together to give you an idea of what I'm talking about.

For the rest of your site I got 2 suggestions to consider.

Line-length: I've read a couple articles/blogs online that have covered this topic.  "Research" has shown that when a viewer has to read text that has lines thats are very wide they get "annoyed" "overwhelmed" or even bored.  The suggested width for lines of text is somewhere around like 550-600px.  It sorta makes sense if you think about it, cuz if ur reading and scrolling down cuz you are reading more lines you sort of have this psychological feeling of "accomplishment" goin on in ur head so you continue reading bc u feel like you are making progress.

*You want to keep your readers on your site as long as possible, the more they read the longer they stay ;)

Merging Pages:  Don't force a new page.  If there isn't enough content merge it with related information.  For example, with your subpages for "Technology" I would combine alot of those into a common category since you have alot of the pages holding a single picture and a sentence or two, you can stack these in a nice unordered list on a single page, maybe split the layout in 1/2 so you can get more info on a page at a time.

A bit lengthy but I hope this "critique" is somewhat helpful to you and anyone else who might be reading this.  I just wanted to share some design strategy that I have learned the past year and a half or so.  I also want to say that I do not claim that what I suggested is "correct" or "better" then the original design. Merely an observation.
