 Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me out with this. I need to add a new host alias but use a slightly different path and I'm not sure exactly how to do this.

Here is what I have now, a single install of dotnetduke in c:\dotnetnuke, and under IIS I have dev.mydomain.com configured.
Inside of dev.mydomain.com I have a virtual application called "DotNetNuke" pointing to c:\dotnetnuke.  And up until now I have just used the URL http://dev.mydomain.com/DotNetNuke  for preparing the site.

I've now reached the point where I need to make the site "live" but want to use just the URL "www.mydomain.com" and I am unsure how to configure IIS/DNN for this. I can certainly configure DNN with a Host alias for www.mydomain.com and I can configure IIS with a host header for www.mydomain.com, but surely there is something else I would need to do to force http://www.mydomain.com to call the /DotNetNuke virtual application without actually using "DotNetNuke" in the URL ?

Hopefully that made some sort of sense

Thanks in advance!

While I am hardly a DNS expert, this is done all of the time. For example, I have a site, jncraig.com, and I have several other sites as portals in the same installation.

One of the sites is sbhs65.com. It is a child of the parent site, so it is known as jncraig.com/sbhs65. But, I also have the domain name sbhs64.com pointed at the site.

As I understand things, there are two parts.

1. In the portalalias table for the site, I have these two entries:

jncraig.com/sbhs65
sbhs65.com

This is the part that configures DotNetNuke. I created the child site, and can always reach it as jncraig.com/sbhs65.

2. The second part is to "point" your domain name (in my case - sbhs65.com) at my site's IP address. Since I'm using a hosting service for the site, I just asked them to do it, and they did.

Once DNS is set up correctly, any requests to sbhs65.com are directed to my IP and my IIS. Then, when IIS goes to handle the request, the fact that sbhs65.com and jncraig.com/sbhs65 are associated in the portalalias table, everything works just fine.

And, if someone can do a better job explaining all of this ... please do! We can all stand to be educated better about all of this.
