Hi
I have downloaded issue 22 about live & localhost synchronisation.
I have not seen it yet because i wanted to know first if i could use these instructions to backup my live install on a SQL 2000 Server and tranfert it on a localhost installation using SQL 2005 Express.
Would it be possible to do?
Thanks

you can go from SQL 2000 to 2005 - but I'm unsure if you will then be able to transfer a localhost 2005 database to to a live SQL 2000 database, I don't think this will be possible.

If you wish to transfer between local and live, you can get hold of a developers only license of SQL Server 2000 for a very low cost through places such as amazon.

Thank you Lee, I want to migrate to SQL Server 2005.

I have a new question about this tutorial: almost everything worked fine, but i have a problem with links and images. No image is showing and all the links are broken. Do you have any idea of how i could repair that.

What will be the behaviour once i transfer to live instalation again?

Thank you.

Guillaume

Hello,

We cover the problems with images and links here:
Find and Replace SQL queries for DotNetNuke
(To fix problems after transferring a localhost database to a live website and other useful functions)

And, to do that search and replace I recommend the F3 module that is free from Engage Software. It simplifies the process greatly and you can do the search and replace without doing any SQL stuff.

Thank you both for your answers.
I used Engage F3 Module which is really a great tool and I have solved the whole problem in 10 minutes!

I was able to replicate my live website on my localhost installation.
Then i wanted to replicate it to a new server, but i went into the following issue: I can't login any more.
When in clic the login button, it gives a http 404 error.
I tried to install a new DNN Site from the install files, and had the same issue. I guess this is a problem of IIS cnfiguration.
Any Sugestion?

have you had a look at the tutorials on how to install a fresh installation of DotNetNuke:
they may point you in the right direction. - things to check:
you are using asp.net 2.0 framework
correct security permissions have been set up on the DotNetNuke installation files
web.config file has correct settings

if this is a new server, for troubleshooting I would first try to get a fresh installation of DotNetNuke working. once you have that working, it will then be easier to transfer a localhost installation to the new server.

Thanks,

That's exactly what i did when i saw that things were going wrong, I installed a fresh version and had the same problem: I can't go to the loggin page, neither the Register one.
The only active page is the Home page.
It is a new server W2003 R2 Standard Edition
I had some configuration problems, so I suppose that the best way to solve this issue follow will be to start again removing any install app and setting up again.

Thank you for your help.

I just reinstall IIS and then regiisasp.exe and that was it.
